Travel Tuesday with Rebecca Futty

By Rebecca Futty

Hi! I’m Becca Futty, this week’s featured travel agent.  I thought for Travel Tuesday, I’d take a look back at some of my tried and true tips for getting the most magic out of a Walt Disney World Vacation. The World may be changing, but these five tips remain true.
  1. Plan Ahead...If there's one thing that can RUIN a Disney World vacation, it's a complete lack of planning. There is nothing worse you can do to yourself than showing up to the Magic Kingdom with no layout to your day, no dining reservations (or idea of what you'd like to eat and where to find it), and no concept for how your day will go. One great solution to this problem: Book with a Travel Agent. Our job is to help you plan the vacation of your dreams! We’re your Disney guru who you can always go to with any questions. We are on call during your vacation to help you with all the details! Travel Agents, especially those like me who specialize in Disney travel, are there to walk you through the intricacies of planning a Disney World Vacation, and are especially helpful in this ever-changing time.
  2. ...but Stay Flexible - "But you just told me to plan!?" I know, but if you remain flexible you won’t be disappointed if there is a longer line than you anticipated or you have to wait a few extra minutes for your dining time. So in those cases you'll need to take Crush's advice and "go with the flow." Go at the speed of the people you’re traveling with. I’m an early riser on vacation, my husband is not. I have learned that we have a far better trip when I let him sleep in and relax instead of forcing him to go to the parks at 7:30 in the morning. An overly strict schedule can add unnecessary stress!
  3. Have Patience - Between ride waits, travel time, and the massive amount of children about, Disney World is a place that requires immeasurable patience. It may seem ridiculous, but the less in a rush you are to have everything you want RIGHT NOW the more enjoyable your vacation will be. Did something go wrong? Are family members aggravating you? Does it seem like every other guest is there to personally ruin your vacation? Be Elsa and LET IT GO. The more you stress over things out of your control the less time you'll spend actually enjoying your trip. I’ve been to Disney over twenty times and still have not done everything so don’t expect to go to Magic Kingdom for one day and see it all! Plan to make magical memories during this trip and mark on the map what you want to do during your next adventure the following year or two years away!
  4. Say Something! - “But you just told me to let it go!” Yes, I did. However, if there is something that is adversely affecting your trip that a cast member can actually do something about, then say something to them! Room not exactly what you requested? Ride have issues while you were on it? Food not to your liking? Don’t walk up to a Cast Member rudely yelling. If you politely mention that your room wasn't up to snuff or something went wrong, Disney Cast Members will attempt to make it right - especially if it's a less crowded time of year. Here's the kicker though, you need to ask without expecting anything. If something went wrong on the ride, there's no guarantee they'll let you ride again, but it never hurts to ask nicely!
  5. Utilize the Tools Disney Gives You - Whether it be the MyDisneyExperience App, Baby Stations, First Aid, Disabilities Access Service card, or even Child Swap, I can help you learn about what Disney offers that will aid you specifically! Those tools are there for your benefit, trying to get through an entire trip without knowing about or utilizing them is just a shame and I can teach you the ins and outs of how to properly utilize all those important components!
